Are you interested in being a Library volunteer?

Consider the Library's Volunteen program, especially for students in grade 6 and up.

  • You must have complted 6th grade to be a Project Volunteen or a Summer Reading Volunteen. You must have completed 7th grade to be a Computer Partner Volunteen.
  • You must be responsible.
  • You must attend an orientation. (Ask Library staff about our next date.)
  • You must be a Mount Prospect resident
  • You must complete and return a signed application.

What volunteer opportunties are available?

Project Volunteen

  • You must have completed 6th grade.
  • Plan on 2 hours per week, for 3 to 4 months, during the school year and/or the summer months.
  • Responsibilities include shelving, filing, and other projects assigned by Library staff.
  • Orientation is offered three times a year.

Summer Reading Volunteen (June and July only)

  • You must have completed 6th grade.
  • Plan on 2 hours per week, June 1 to July 31.
  • You will talk with younger children and their parents about the Youth summer reading program and give out prizes. You will enjoy this most if you are a "people person" - enthusiastic, interested in kids and able to communicate well.
  • Orientation is offered in late spring.

For more information about the Library volunteen program, please stop by the Youth Services desk! The Library requires at least a one-week notice if special accomodations are needed. Fill out an application today!
