Library Card
Library cards are free to anyone who resides within the Village limits of Mount Prospect. Bring in two pieces of identification, one with your name and another with your name and current address, to the Registration Desk to obtain a card. Youths under eighteen years of age must have a parent or guardian’s signature before receiving a card.
Forgot your card? The Circulation staff will check out six items for Mount Prospect cardholders only with a current Illinois driver’s license or I.D. card.
Identification for Library Card
- Illinois driver’s license or state I.D. with current Mount Prospect address.
- Checks imprinted with current Mount Prospect address.
- Illinois voter’s registration.
- Current utility bill—within the last 2 months.
- Lease or mortgage papers.
- Apartment or condominium I.D. The property must be within the village limits of Mount Prospect and have the complex name on the I.D.
- Vehicle sticker renewal form—printed with a current Mount Prospect address. This form cannot be handwritten.
- Payroll check with a current date.
- Homeowner’s insurance papers with a current date.
- Illinois driver’s permit—must be issued by the Secretary of State, not handwritten.
Purchase a Library Card
Library cards may be obtained by nonresidents provided they reside in an area where tax-supported library service is currently not available. The cost of this card is based on the amount of taxes paid by residents. Beginning July 1, 2002 Mount Prospect nonresident and business Library cards can be used at libraries that participate in the nonresident reciprocal borrowing program.
Mount Prospect Residents
- are not limited in the number of Books, Magazines, Encyclopedias, Audio Tapes, Books on Tape, Books on CD, CD-ROMs, Kits (Youth or Adult), or Art Prints they may check out.
- may check out a maximum of 6 Fiction DVDs, including 4 New Fiction DVDs and 4 Multi-part Fiction DVDs.
- may check out a maximum of 15 per category of Non-Fiction DVDs, Fiction VHS, Non-Fiction VHS, and CDs.
- may check out a maximum of 4 toys per family (not per library card).
- may request up to 5 Inter-Library Loan items.
- may check out one Book Discussion Bag at a time.
Reciprocal Borrowers
- are not limited in the number of Books, Magazines, or Encyclopedias they may check out.
- are limited to a total of 6 Audio/Visual (AV) items, including all VHS, Audio Tapes, Books on Tape/CD, CDs, CD-ROMS, Art Prints, and all Kits.
- may check out a total of 2 DVDs (except New DVDs), which is a part of the 6 AV limit.
- may not check out New DVDs.
- may check out a maximum of 4 toys per family (not per library card).
- may not request Inter-Library Loan items through MPPL. (Please contact your home library for ILLs)
