Books
The Library's collection includes many books on a wide variety of health topics. Most books may be checked out for three weeks. These include sources on:

Magazines
There are many magazines and newsletters in the collection that deal with medical topics. Some titles include:
• Arthritis Today
• Harvard Health Letter
• Health
• Journal of the American Medical Association
• Mayo Clinic Health Letter
• University of California at Berkeley Wellness Letter
Medical topics are also discussed in a number of general interest magazines, such as:

To find articles about specific illnesses or conditions periodical databases are available through InfoTrac and First Search. Current issues of magazines may only be used in the Library, but older issues may be checked out for two weeks.
Videos (610-619)
The nonfiction video collection also offers information about a wide range of medical topics with fitness being the most popular subject. VHS-format cassettes and DVDs of all kinds of exercise disciplines from aerobics to yoga are included and may be checked out for two weeks.
Online Resources
The Library subscribes to some specialized health-related online resources. To search them, please go to the Research and Reference page of the Library’s Web site (www.mppl.org) and click on Health and Medicine under the heading Databases by Subject.
Health and Wellness Resource Center (1980-Present)
• This database provides access to magazines, journals, encyclopedia entries, pamphlets, drug information, Web links, and multimedia. The site includes information on a variety of health-related topics. It is available for use in the library or from home.

Medline [First Search] (1965-Present)
• This online resource provides access to journal articles in all areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing, with links to some full-text articles. It is available for use in the Library or from home.

• Includes a collection of health and medicine related encyclopedias.

Internet Sites
There are a vast number of Web sites that deal with health and medicine. They vary considerably in usefulness and reliability. Care must be used when considering the information provided on these sites. Here are some Web sites which are helpful and authoritative. They include:

• Healthfinder (www.healthfinder.gov) — general medical information
• Medline Plus (www.medlineplus.gov) — general medical information
• National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (nccam.nih.gov) — Objective information about complemen tary and alternative treatments.
• AMA Physician Select (www.ama-assn.org/doctorfinder /home.html) — information about doctors
