Patriotic Lantern

Patriotic Lantern

Supplies

Blue construction paper- cut to 6 x 9 inches (or can use full sheet of paper)
White paper strips (about a half inch wide)
Red paper strips (about 1 x 8)
White stars (cut from paper or use foam stars)
Glue sticks                                                                   
Stapler
Scissors                                                                       
Tape
Red crayons and markers

Directions

1. Fold the blue piece of construction paper in half lengthwise.

2. Fold the edges back ½ inch to form the top and bottom rims.  Crease them and unfold.

3. Cut slits from the middle fold to the rims, spacing about ¾ inch apart.

4. Color red stripes on 2 white paper strips.  Glue the strips along the top and bottom rims

5. Shape into lantern by opening the paper and bringing the ends together to overlap slightly.   Staple together at the top and bottom.

6. Staple a red handle inside the top on both sides.

7. Glue on the white stars.
