The Library Foundation was established in 1997 to develop and manage an endowment fund created primarily through charitable contributions. The Foundation’s purpose is to provide additional funding for programs and services beyond what is available through the Library’s tax-supported base. Setting an initial goal of raising $200,000, the Endowment income will fund special Library programs and other services designed to respond to the interests and needs of the Mount Prospect Community.

Rinella Dazzles Audience with "Cleopatra"

Cleopatra book cover by Stacy Schiff

An enthusiastic audience of more than 90 people was transported to an exotic time and place as the legendary Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, was brought to life by academic entertainer Barbara Rinella on Monday, October 3 at the Mount Prospect Public Library.

The performance was pure Rinella. Dressed in a gilded head piece and using her masterful story-telling techniques, Rinella dramatically portrayed the mythical Cleopatra. Rinella skillfully recounted stories of intrigue and adventure validating Cleopatra as one of the most famous and once-powerful women in history. Rinella performed for more than an hour, captivating her audience with an amazing recall for historical detail peppered with a hefty dose of humor.

“Who knew history could be such fun,” said one participant at the conclusion of the program.

Rinella based her performance on the book “Cleopatra: A Life,” by Stacy Schiff.  The event raised more than $1,000 for the Foundation, which sponsors special programming and events that otherwise would not be possible with public funding.

Rinella will return for her next appearance at the Mount Prospect Public Library on Monday, October 1, 2012. Mark your calendars!
